Is Cannabidiol Important For All Of Us?

A lot of people want to know how many “hits” there are inside a Cannabidiol (CBD) cartridge. There are two ways to look at this question. The first is, what do you think the potency of the product is when you purchase it? Do you assume that the label says exactly what it is and that it contains x amount of milligrams of cannabinoids per gram of cannabis flower?

If you do assume that, then you’re wrong. Even if you have purchased “high-quality” cannabis that has been lab tested for THC content, there can be significant amounts of other cannabinoids present. In fact, according to an article on Forbes, “…it’s possible that a single gram of high-potency cannabis could contain between 5,000 and 10,000 mg of CBD.” That means that even if your product claims to contain 1,000mg of CBD or more, you may actually only get 100mg.

The second way to answer this question is by looking at the actual cannabinoid profile of the plant material. According to Leafly, every strain of cannabis will have a different chemical composition based on its genetics. This is why one strain may test as low as 0.1% THC but another may test as high as 2.0%.

So let’s say that you buy a 500mg carton of a certain strain and that the label on the package says that it contains 1,000mg of CBD. If it does contain 1,000mg of CBD but that’s because it also has 200mg of CBD in it, would you feel cheated out of half of your daily dose? You bet! And that’s not even considering the other cannabinoids in your product like CBN, THCA, terpenes, etc…

It really comes down to quality control. If your products don’t contain enough CBD for you to get the full effect, you just need to move up to a higher potency product.

There are plenty of reasons why some manufacturers choose to use lower potency products. For example, they might want to keep their prices lower so that more people can afford them. They may also have limited access to good quality marijuana that meets certain standards that allow it to contain a higher level of CBD than their competitors. Another reason is that they simply want to give you less of something for the money you paid for it.

When buying CBD cartridges, make sure that you read the labels and understand what exactly you’re getting.

Now we’ve got a better understanding of how many milligrams of CBD are in each cartridge. Here’s where things get tricky. How much CBD is in each gram of cannabis flower? To find out, you need to know how much total weight of flowers was used to produce each cartridge. It turns out that the answers vary depending on who you ask.

According to a study published in Phytotherapy Research, “the average weight of dry flowers [used] to produce the average CBD cartridge is 15 grams.” But if I check the websites of the top ten CBD oil brands—which all sell their products through dispensaries—I see that the weights range from 11 to 16 grams.

One thing that doesn’t change is that a gram of cannabis flower contains anywhere from 5–20mg of CBD.

So now that you know how much CBD is in a cartridge, how many milligrams of CBD are in each gram of flower? Let’s take a trip back to our basic algebra equation:

You can plug in either side of this equation to figure out how much CBD is in a gram of flower and then multiply that number by the weight of the flower used to create the cartridge to determine how many milligrams of CBD are in the cartridge. For example, if a company uses 15 grams of flower to create one cartridge, and each gram contains 20mg of CBD, then each cartridge must contain 600mg of CBD.

This calculation works for both sides of the equation. So you can plug in either 15g/20mg or 20mg/15g into either side of the equation and get the same result. However, it’s important to note that if you plug in 20mg/15g, you end up with an answer of about 1,100mg of CBD in each gram of flower. So if you were to use that same calculation on a 16gram/20mg cartridge, you’d end up with 800mg of CBD per gram of flower.

To avoid confusion, let’s define the unit of measurement for CBD concentration as “mg/ml.” It means that 1ml = 1000mg. This method makes sense when you realize that 1ml is equal to 3.785 teaspoons and therefore, 1 teaspoon =.625ml.

In addition to helping consumers figure out how big a gram of flower looks like, the above equation can help manufacturers determine how many milligrams of CBD are in each gram of flower. All you need to do is divide the number of milligrams by the number of milliliters, and then divide that number by 1000 to get the final result. So if a company is selling a 50mg/ml CBD cartridge, the resulting number will be 50 divided by 3.785 (remember, 1ml equals 1000mg). Then you divide that number by 1000 (again, remember, 1ml equals 1000mg) to get the final result of 25mg/ml.

As mentioned earlier, this method is most useful when you’re trying to calculate concentrations of CBD when using cannabis flower. When working with CBD isolate, however, you need to use a slightly different equation because isolates come in liquid form and thus, don’t have a fixed volume. Since they’re sold in small bottles, a gram of CBD isolate is equivalent to about 250 ml. Therefore, the equation becomes:

With this formula, you can quickly determine the exact amount of CBD in any bottle of CBD isolate. Keep in mind, however, that since CBD isolate is measured in milliliters instead of milligrams, it won’t matter whether a bottle is labeled with 25mg of CBD or 250mg of CBD. The concentration in each case will always be the same.

With these equations in hand, you should be able to calculate anything you want about how much CBD is in a gram of cannabis flower or how much CBD is in a gram of CBD isolate. This information is vital when purchasing CBD products because it allows you to compare the cost per milligram of CBD among competing companies and decide which ones offer the best value for your dollar.
